(September 6, 2024) – Longview’s Cultural District has been awarded more than $240,000 in state grant funding that will allow Arts!Longview and its partner organizations to provide more enhancements and programming for the community.

The Texas Commission on the Arts voted Thursday, September 5, 2024, to award more than $14.5 million in state grant funding to arts organizations across 130 cities in Texas. The Arts!Longview Cultural District was awarded $240,507 in total grants across five nonprofit arts organizations – Arts!Longview, Longview Museum of Fine Arts, Longview Symphony Orchestra, ArtsView Children’s Theatre, and East Texas Symphonic Band.

“We are so thankful to the Texas Commission on the Arts for the most recent grant funding that will allow us and our partner arts organizations to bring more enhancements and innovative programming to our community,” Arts!Longview Executive Director Christina Cavazos said.

Arts!Longview received a $90,000 Cultural District Project grant to paint a new design on the city’s water tower located on High Street in the Cultural District. Cultural District Project grants offered through the TCA are available only to communities with state-designated Cultural Districts. Arts!Longview received its state designation in 2019.

Arts!Longview’s project is a partnership with the City of Longview’s Public Works Department.

“We are incredibly grateful to the City of Longview for giving us this unique opportunity,” Cavazos said. “The water tower is highly visible from many major roadways, including U.S. 80, and we are certain the new artistic signage will bring awareness to the Arts!Longview Cultural District and the unique offerings within it.”

Longview Museum of Fine Arts received an $82,500 Cultural District Project grant to support the grand opening of the museum’s new location on Fredonia Street, featuring the exhibition “George Rodrigue: Painting for Myself.”

Longview Symphony Orchestra received a $36,000 Cultural District Project grant that will support its upcoming family concert, “Out of this World: A Sci-Fi Spectacular,” which will bring the exhilarating music of science fiction films to the Arts!Longview Cultural District.
